shiploverny > A box containing replacement sprinkler heads, from Mather & Platt Ltd., Manchester. The same little boxes and the accompanying sprinkler pressure guages can be found aboard QE2, 13 years newer.
shiploverny > The crew gym on C Deck. Until recently, this was the passenger gym! As recently as 12 years ago, this was the gym/spa aboard a Carnival ship - compare to the elaborate facilities aboard the Carnival vessels of today!
shiploverny > The crew Internet Cafe. Three of the chairs are of the current type used in the dining room, but still sporting original upholstery. The fourth chair - facing the camera, up against the far bulkhead - is an original EMPRESS OF BRITAIN dining room chair, reupholstered painted lavender during an early Carnival refit! It might be the only one of these still around, anywhere!
shiploverny > As we emerge from the bowels of the ship, note this sign on the back of the door to the old indoor pool (now crew gym and Internet room) area, a reminder to crew to "SMILE - You are about to go on Stage!"
shiploverny > Before leaving the ship, I snapped one last view of the still-elegant (sort of) first-class staircase.
shiploverny > And I couldn't resist snapping myself in one of those mirrors! That's all for now... I hope you enjoyed your virtual visit aboard TSS THE TOPAZ! This wonderful old ship is an amazing survivor and I hope she remains in service for some time yet. Thanks to the Peaceboat Organization (http://www.peaceboat.org) for having us aboard and the World Ship Society Port of New York Branch (http://www.worldshipny.com) for organizing this event.
