shiploverny > The Sports Bar has two forward "wings"; one port and one starboard, which were originally part of the Club Room. Now they're curtained off; this is a forward-facing view of the portside wing which is now a games room. The furniure is new but the ceiling is original as are the brass windows looking out on the enclosed promenade.

shiploverny > This is the starboard "wing", now a meeting room. Note the early Carnival-era chrome-and-vinyl furniture.

shiploverny > Moving aft again, the foyer of the forward (former first-class) staircase has two corridors like this, one on each side of the stairs. The imposing brass doors at the end lead to the Windjammer Lounge, originally the Empress Room, the EMPRESS OF BRITAIN's main lounge. This was a "neutral" space, open to both first- and tourist-class passengers. The doors are original, but used to be wood and have now been recovered in gold-colored laminate.

shiploverny > This is the much more imposing aft - former tourist-class - entrance to the Windjammer Lounge, still sporting its original wood and etched glass. What treasures lie within?

shiploverny > Immediately inside the Windjammer Lounge is this magnificent curved bulkhead with inlaid woodwork, all original. Note the curved doors.

shiploverny > Another view of the same space. A bar has been added, but aside from that and the new (but complementary) furniture, this view could have been taken in 1956.

shiploverny > While now covered in metallic surfacing on the outside (see earlier photo), the inside surfaces of the entrance doors retain their wood veneer. Also note the original frosted glass light fixture.

shiploverny > The room's pseudo-circular layout was extremely popular in British ships of the era. Note the original raised ceilings with indirect lighting in this forward-facing view.
