shiploverny > Modern lighting over the stage disfigures an otherwise gorgeous space.

shiploverny > The heavy brass railings are another wonderful mid-century touch.

shiploverny > Now we move aft on Upper Deck to the Library, originally the tourist-class smoking room. Later, in the Carnival years, it became a casino before taking on its present role at the beginning of the Peace Boat charter. This room retains bits and pieces of its original furnishing, but has largely been renovated. This view is facing aft; the shopping arcasde is through the double doors. Off to starboard is Hemingway's, originally the tourist-class cocktail bar, while the indoor promenade can be seen to port.

shiploverny > A forward-facing view in the library, looking towards the Windjammer Lounge.

shiploverny > These hammered-bronze panels are some of the few original details remaining in the library. Originally, medallions filled all the circular voids but most of them have since been filled in with pieces of wood.

shiploverny > On the starboard side of the library is Hemingway's, the former tourist-class cocktail bar, seen in this aft-starboard facing view. The decor dates from the Carnival era and is by Joe Farcus. Originally, a bulkhead separated this space from the indoor promenade, but now it's been expanded outward to the side of the ship.

shiploverny > Another view of Hemingway's with very 1980s decor by Joe Farcus. Note the extremely low furniture, even including the bar stools which must have been intended for very tall people!
